About the cooperative

Building prosperity through shared strength.

SMC is built on a simple belief: many things that are difficult for one person to achieve alone become possible when people come together under an umbrella of trust, integrity, discipline and collaboration.

Nigeria has a large population and a significant number of people living with limited economic opportunities. For many families, home ownership, vehicle ownership, business establishment and sustainable wealth creation can feel beyond individual reach. The cooperative model provides a structured way for members to contribute, collaborate and progressively access opportunities that are difficult to achieve alone.

Our Vision.

100 Million Nigerians. One Network of Opportunity.

To build a trusted cooperative network connecting a minimum of 100 million Nigerians, with particular attention to lower- and middle-income communities, while remaining open to Nigerians from every economic class who believe in collective progress.

Our Mision.

Raise Members to a Better Standard of Living — One at a Time.

Our mission is to progressively improve the economic position of our members by using cooperative surplus, business education and enterprise development to create practical pathways toward greater financial independence.

Member Development.

Over time, members are envisioned to gain access to opportunities such as home ownership through affordable financial pathways, vehicle ownership through manageable financial arrangements, solid business training, business establishment, and other productive assets.
These opportunities will be structured and administered in accordance with the cooperative's rules, the member's level of participation, available cooperative resources, and the member's identification number within the established sequence.

The Power of a Growing Community.

The larger the community, the greater the capacity to empower its members.

The larger the community, the greater the cooperative's collective capacity to empower faithfully participating members.

SMC believes that meaningful economic transformation becomes more achievable when people contribute consistently, resources are pooled responsibly, and opportunities are distributed through a transparent and well-governed system.

Our ambition to build a network of millions of Nigerians is therefore not simply about numbers. It is about building a large, organized community whose collective strength can continually create opportunities for individual members.

“The strength of a community is firstly in the number of its members and secondly in the quality of its governance.”

A larger and well-governed community creates greater capacity to empower individual members. As the cooperative grows, its collective resources, purchasing power, productive assets, partnerships and surplus can grow with it.

Through proper governance and disciplined participation, that growing capacity can be directed toward practical member-development opportunities — one member at a time.

This is how we envision collective strength becoming individual progress.

Governance Philosophy

We believe national transformation begins with personal and community responsibility. By learning to properly govern ourselves, manage our collective resources, uphold integrity and serve one another, we can contribute to building a better Nigeria from the ground up.

“If you cannot build it alone, you can build it with others.”

Membership is more than building assets. The SMC Welfare & Solidarity Fund is designed to give eligible participating members structured support through Celebrations, bereavement, serious illness, emergencies and important life events.

Shared care. Structured support. Stronger members.

Participating members contribute to a separately recorded welfare fund created for genuine needs and approved life events.

How ordinary eligibility begins

A new member ordinarily completes three months of welfare contributions, remains financially up to date and supplies reasonable evidence for a qualifying event. Exceptional emergency assistance may be considered where circumstances justify it.

Policy notice: Benefits are guidelines, not automatic entitlements. They depend on formal policy adoption, eligibility, supporting evidence, verification, approval and the Fund's available balance. Welfare contributions are pooled separately from savings and are ordinarily non-refundable.
